The Great Sin (1905) — the copyist
The copyist the PSS commentary names as M. L. Obolenskaya (М. Л. Оболенская) is the daughter Maria Lvovna, not the sister Maria Nikolaevna; the commentary itself names her as the daughter.1
On 1 July 1905, by Dushan Makovitsky’s notes, the finished The Great Sin was given to her to copy for Russkaya Mysl, with the plan of taking it to the post in person.1 Her copy has not survived. The commentary uses the lost copy to explain why the journal text differs in places from the surviving manuscripts: the differences may be corrections made in her copy.2
